Prior Preparation

Doing some preparation before bringing the boys to the barbershop can really work wonders, especially if it is going to be their first haircut. Role playing is a lot fun and a mock up barbershop at home can help them to get acquainted with a hair cut so that it doesn’t come as a shock on the day. Try wrapping your child in a towel and spray some water over their hair. Use a comb and your fingers to mimic the sectioning and cutting of the hair like a barber would do.

His First Haircut

When the big day rolls around, be sure that they are not over tired and have a full stomach when you bring them in, tired and hungry boys can be very tough to settle. A book, mobile phone or tablet can keep them occupied during the haircut, allowing the barber to deliver an awesome hairstyle that compliments their personality.

The Scissor Cut

Hair clippers can be quite intimidating to our micro men although they are necessary for very tight hairstyles. There are on the other hand many stylish looks that require only the use of scissors, thereby avoiding the buzz and torment of the clippers all together. Scissor cuts are generally looser and more natural looking, the type of haircut that most toddler boys will benefit from.

Shaped & Styled

As boys approach the transitional phase between toddlerhood and childhood, they generally become more self aware, trying to put ownership on seemingly everything, including their new hairstyle. At this point they are ready for more in depth hairstyles. The use of clippers and even a razor may be used to shape up their new look. Styling products like pastes and clays can be introduced so their flash new hairstyle can hold shape through out the day.
