MEN’S HAIRSTYLES - DEALING WITH FRINGE AND FRAMING THE FACE
March 12, 2021
There is nothing more tormenting than a fringe stabbing you in the eyeballs all day. It’s no wonder that a short lined up fringe is all the rage these days. Today we take look at different men’s hairstyles and the differing ways of effectively dealing with that fringe.
Remember all those unfortunate emo kids of the early 2000’s?, the ones who all had black dyed hair and who’s fringes were grown into long side sweeps? Well that is the opposite of what we are going to talk about today. Let’s take a look at some classic and contemporary hairstyles and look at how they stylishly and effectively manage fringe and frame the face.
Many of the retro or old-school hairstyles have made comebacks in recent times, think pompadour, quiff, side parts and slick backs. They all manage the fringe in the same way, by combing or styling the hair up and off the face. This is usually always done with the aid of a styling product like a pomade, paste, powder or hairspray. These help to set the style and keep the hair in place (and out of the face) throughout the day.
With short hairstyles like crew cuts and contemporary textured styles like messy crop tops, the fringe is managed by keeping the length above the brow line. This allows the hair to fall down naturally and opens up many options for the cutting of the fringe itself. A blunt fringe is cut straight across the forehead with no feathering. A textured fringe is usually point cut and is generally kept longer in the fringe than the hair towards the crown. A razor line up adds extra definition and is most commonly applied with short straight fringes on styles like crew cuts.
Although sometimes considered a nuisance, fringes can be used to disguise a large forehead, shorten a longer face shape or hide a receding hairline. A creative fringe cut can help frame the face nicely and with varying textures, shapes and lengths, there's something to suit the features of most men.
