WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY’VE BANNED THE MULLET

March 19, 2022

Maitland is pretty much mullet central, you could say the homeland of the hairstyle. Mulletfest was born just up the road at Kurri Kurri and Reg Ragen is no doubt sippin’ tinnies somewhere in Cessnock. There has never actually been a time when the mullet hairstyle and all of its modern day variations has ever been more popular. But has this popularity caused a stir in some unexpected places and has this led to the banning of the iconic hairstyle? You betcha it has…

The mullet has always been a hairstyle for those on the fringes and for those who aren’t afraid to flip the bird at the establishments. But what happens when the establishments start fighting back?

"Australia Bans The Mullet"

That was the somewhat curious and eyebrow raising heading that we stumbled across online recently. Upon reading the article, we were enlightened to find out that the recent resurgence in popularity of the mullet had ruffled the feathers of a few old ducks around the education system. This in turn, led to the outlawing of the mullet hairstyle in a number of schools across the country.

The deputy principle at one of NSW’s prestige schools is quoted in the article as saying: ‍

"The 'mullet' haircut trending at present is not acceptable and students will be directed to the local barber or their preferred hair stylist to rectify any issues.”

A different school but one of a similar calibre makes direct reference to the banning of the mullet in their school policy, which reads:

“Hairstyles should be of a conservative nature. Students are not permitted to have mullets, rat’s tails, top knots, mohawks, extra-long fringes, or any other non-conventional style cuts.”

So the mullet’s rise in popularity continues amongst many of our young men and it seems that these lads are coming up against some stiff opposition in the institutions of the nation. As they endeavour to exercise their freedom of choice, we support their fight and we are gladly cutting every possible type of mullet hairstyle imaginable here at Barber Industries Stockland Greenhills. In saying that, we can’t help but stop and wonder which side of the wrangle will reign supreme in the long run….
