IDOL INFLUENCE: HOW SPORTS STARS DRIVE TRENDS IN BOYS HAIRSTYLES

When it comes to hairstyles, boys often look to their idols for inspiration. From NRL, AFL and A-League stars to musicians and actors, the people that boys admire tend to have a big influence on their choices. This is especially true when it comes to athletes, as their style choices are often copied by fans who want to show their support for their favourite team or player.

As a rabid sporting nation, it’s no surprise that the sports stars have such a huge influence on the youth here in Australia.

While some athletes opt for conservative styles, others are the trendsetters who actively shape the direction of the trends in boys hairstyles. Read on as we take a closer look at some of the current idol influence.


Nathan Cleary - NRL

Nathan Cleary is a professional rugby league player who currently plays for the Penrith Panthers in the NRL.

He has established himself as one of the elite players and is also the current NSW Blues and Australian halfback. He often wears a burst fade hairstyle or a short mullet with a fade at the temples. George Kambosis Jr. - Boxing

George Kambosis is an Australian professional boxer who is a former lightweight boxing world champion who held held all four of the WBA, IBF, WBO and Ring titles.

George has a lot of body ink and is always seen with his trademark skin fade haircut, an able ambassador for for good style and influential to many young fight fans.


Matisse Thybulle - Basketball

Matisse Thybulle is an Australian/American basketball player contracted to the  Philadelphia 76ers for a said to be six million dollars a season.

He also plays for Australia, winning a bronze medal with the Boomers in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He keeps his afro hair mid-length and complimented with a short taper at the temples. He is a skilful and stylish basketball player with loads of influence on the hairstyle choices of the basketball playing youth of Australia.
