THE RIGHT RAZOR AND THE ULTIMATE SHAVE

May 9, 2021

When you’re talking about running a razor blade against your throat, you want to ensure that you’ve adopted the right steel for the job. A bad razor leads to a bad shave and this leads to a bad start to the day. Today we talk razors, how to avoid unnecessary bloodshed and how to get the best shave that money can buy.

Avoiding The Bloodshed

It is highly unlikely that any razor blade will ever be one hundred percent safe, it must be said that some razors are exceptionally safer than others but by nature there is still an inherent risk. If you have ever enjoyed a traditional wet shave at the barbershop then you’d be familiar with a straight razor, also known as a cut throat razor. When wielded by the right hands these single bladed tools can produce the closest shave you’ve ever had. However, when used without the necessary experience, you’re talking high risk for the reward. Best to leave the use of a straight razor to the barber and avoid any unnecessary bloodshed before work, opt for a safety razor instead.

What’s A Safety Razor?

Razor is a broad term and there are many different forms to choose from for shaving. There is however two types of ‘safety razor’ amongst the selection. The traditional double edged single blade and the more conventional reusable ones that generally come with twin, three or even five blades in the cartridge. The uniting factor is a protective guard between the edge of the blade and the skin.

Do you really need five blades? No, you don’t need five blades, the multiple razor blades help to spread out the cutting surface, which cuts more hair with a single pass. This makes shaving quicker but doesn't necessarily give a closer shave. Multiple blades can also irritate the skin, which is especially bad for men with sensitive skin or those who are prone to razor rash.

Couple this craft with the finest of soaps, brushes and balms and you’re well on your way to the best shave that money can buy.
