HAIRCUTS FOR KIDS AND WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

May 26, 2022

A trip to the barbershop for a haircut can be pretty stressful for a young child and also pretty full on for a parent too, especially if it’s your first time. In today’s article, we offer some tips and tricks on what to know before you go, hopefully making the next visit to us here at Barber industries Roselands an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

There is a catch 22 challenge in a haircut for kids and that lays in the fact that scissors are dangerous. As a parent, we educate our kids of this fact in an attempt to prevent anybody from getting hurt, it becomes known that scissors are not to be handled by kids. Next minute, here comes this barber stranger wielding a pair of scissors and buzzing shears, understandably this can create some anxiety in the little ones. The key work around to this is to prepare them before heading to the barbershop.

Getting kids comfortable with the concept of a haircut can be half of the job done.

Before going to the barbershop you can role play the process at home, talking your child through the things that they will encounter on the day. A towel draped over the shoulders and fastened with a hair clip works well as a barber’s cape, spray of the water bottle to wet the hair and the mimicking of the cutting with scissors are all good things to try out. Finishing with a comb and some styling is a must as well as lots of praise for cooperation and maybe even a treat to finish.

On the day of your kids ‘real’ visit to the barbershop, they will be more familiar with the process of the haircut and hopefully more comfortable too. Be sure the young one arrives with a full stomach and is not ready to go down for his nap. Being hungry or tired often leads to a difficult experience for everyone involved. Having a phone or tablet handy and their favourite cartoon streaming can provide a focal point that helps the kids to sit still. Not just a great distraction, this enables the barber to perform a more detailed and thorough haircut, something we all want for our kids.

We hope these tips and tricks help you to prepare the kids for the barbershop and we look forward to welcoming you all here at Barber Industries Roselands.
